SBI Sample Problems Based On Ratio

Dear Reader,
Below are four problems dealing with ratio of numbers.

Question 1
The ratio of four numbers is 1:3:5:7 and the sum of the numbers is 32. Then the largest of these numbers is:
a)14 b)17 c)19 d)15

Answer: a)14

Solution:
Given ratio of the numbers is 1:3:5:7
then the numbers are x , 3x, 5x and 7x
Given that, x + 3x + 5x + 7x = 32
16x = 32
x = 2
Now, the largest of these numbers is 7x = 7(2) = 14.
Hence the answer is 14.

Question 2

The ratio of two numbers is 11:5 and the product of these numbers is 220. Then the smallest one is:
a)15 b)10 c)13 d)12

Answer : b)10

Solution :

Given ratio is 11:5
Then the numbers are 11X and 5X
Given that, 11X x 5X = 220
55X2 = 220
55X2 = 5 x 4 x 11
55X2 = 55 x 22
X = 2

Then, the smallest number is 5X = 10

Question 3

Three numbers are in the ratio 2:3:4 and their sum is 450. Then the sum of their square is :
a) 22500 b) 45000 c) 15000 d) 72500

Answer: d) 72500

Solution:

Given ratio 2:3:4
Then, the numbers are 2X, 3X and 4X
2X + 3X + 4X = 450
9X = 450
X = 50
Therefore, the numbers are 100, 150 and 200.
And their squares are 10000, 22500 and 40000.
Then, the required sum is 10000 + 22500 + 40000 = 72500
Hence, the answer is 72500

Question 4
Two numbers are in the ratio 7:3 and the sum of the numbers is 240 then their difference is:
a) 98 b) 88 c) 96 d) 78

Answer: c) 96

Solution:
Given ratio 7:3
Then, the numbers are 7X, 3X
7X + 3X = 240
10X = 240
X = 24.
Therefore the numbers are 168 and 72.
Hence the required difference = 168 - 72 = 96.
