Percent: By a certain percent we mean that many hundredths.

Thus, X percent means X hundredths, written as X%.

To express X% as a fraction: We have, X% = X / 100

Ex: 15% = = 3 / 20

To express a / b as a percent: We have, a / b = (a / b x 100)%

Ex: 6 / 5 = (6 / 5 x 100)% = 120%

Question 1
If the numerator of a fraction is increased by 150% and the denominator of the fraction is increased by 350%, the resultant fraction is 25/51 . What is the original fraction?

Solution :

let the original fraction be x/y
let us assume that the value of x is 100 and the value of y is 100
then the numerator of the resultant fraction is 250% of x, that is 100+(150/100)*100
similarly the denominator of the resultant fraction is 450%
given that, (250% of x)/(450% of y)=25/51
then (x/y) =(25/51)*(450/250)
hence x/y = 15/17

if the numerator of a fraction is increased by 180% and the denominator of the fraction is increased by 450% then the new fraction will be 35/22. find the real fraction.

Solution :

let the original fraction be x/y
then (280% of x)/(550% of y) =35/22
x/y =(35/22)*(550/280) = 25/8

if the denominator of a fraction is decreased by 25% and the numerator is increased by 85% , the resultant fraction will be 74/28. find the original fraction.

let the original fraction be x/y
then (185% of x)/(75% of y) = 74/28
x/y = (74/28)*(75/185)
=15/14
