Percentage Problems Solved Questions (Page 5 of 8)

Question 1

Praveen paid 15% less than Vino. Kavi paid 25% more than Praveen. If the total sum of their payment is Rs.17475, then how much did Vino paid?

a) Rs.6000 b) Rs.6190 c) Rs.6290 d) Rs.6500

Answer : a) Rs.6000

Solution :

Let the payment of Vino = Rs.X
Praveen Paid = X - X x 15/100 = 85X/100 = 17X/20
Kavi Paid = 85X/100 + 85X/100 x 25/100 = 85X/100 (1+25/100) = 85X x 125 / 10000 = 17X/16

According to the question, X + 17X/20 + 17X/16 = 17475
(80X + 17x4X + 17x5X)/ 80 = 17475
233X/80 = 17475
X = 17475 x 80 / 233 = 75 x 80 = 6000
X = 6000
Hence the answer is Rs.6000.

Question 2

In a class, 20% of students are fail in particular subject. The number of students pass in that subject is 48 more than 2/3 of 48. What is the total number of students in the class?

a) 100 b) 68 c) 95 d) 88

Answer : a) 100

Solution :

Let the total number of students be X.
Number of students passed in that paper = 100 - 20 % = 80% of X.
Therefore, 80% of X = 48 + 2/3 x 48 = 48 + 32 = 80
80X/100 = 80
X = 100.
Hence the total number of students in the class is 100.

Question 3

Two friends purchased some items in their shopping. One of them bought 18 items more than the other and the number of items he bought was 75% of the sum of the number of their items. Then the total number of items purchased by them is:

a)27 b)36 c)45 d)54

Answer : b)36

Solution :

Let the number of items they purchased be X and X+18.
Then X + 18 = 75/100 of total number of items
X+18 = (75/100)(X+18+X) = 3(2X+18) / 4 = 3(X+9) / 2
2X + 36 = 3X + 27
X = 9
Hence the required number = 9 + 9 + 18 = 36.

Question 4

A sports man score 80%, 70% and 40% points in 3 rounds with 100 points 150 points and 80 points respectively as maximum points. Then the percentage of his aggregate score is:

a)60.75% b)61.75% c)62.75% d)65.75%

Answer : d)65.75%

Solution :

Total points scored = 80% of 100 + 70% of 150 + 40% of 80
= 80/100 x 100 + 70/100 x 150 + 40/100 x 80
= 80 + 105 + 32 = 217.
Now, the maximum points = 100 + 150 + 80 = 330
i.e., he scored 217 points out of 330.
Then the required % = 217/330 x 100 = 65.75%
